Monsters University

Ci sono voluti ben 12 anni, ma finalmente la Pixar\Disney ha deciso di deliziarci con una nuova avventura di Mike Wazowski e Sulley, Monsters University, nelle sale italiane dal 21 agosto 2013.

Cosa dire? Le aspettative erano molte - almeno da parte mia, che ben ricordavo l'emozione provata con la visione di Monsters&Co. quando ero ancora dodicenne - e non sono state smentite, anche se non è stato così leggendario come mi immaginavo. Va detto che probabilmente tutti i cartoni si rendono meno interessanti dopo i venti. 

Ma procediamo con ordine.

Il film narra le vicende del giovanissimo Mike, che ancora bambino, decide di diventare un grandissimo spaventatore di professione, dopo una visita alla fabbrica che produce l'energia dalle urla dei bambini spaventati. Arrivato ai 18 anni decide quindi di iscriversi alla Monsters University, alla facoltà di Spavento. Nonostante i buoni propositi di Mike la situazione si rivela più difficile del previsto, e fra la vita da matricola, le lotte fra confraternite, e un geniale concorso di spavento - le Spaventiadi - Mike e Sulley giungono al termine della loro avventura universitaria.

La trama è nel complesso piacevole e simpatica, il film si rivela divertente anche per un pubblico più adulto - diversi sono i riferimenti al primo film - e alcune battute sono a dir poco geniali. 

Vale la pena di citare la geniale gag della mamma di Soufflé che, quando ascolta "le sue canzonette", parte a bomba con musica death metal, proprio perché è un mostro. ADORO.

Colonna sonora piacevole e tutto sommato azzeccata, composta da Randy Newman, che aveva già lavorato al precedente Monster&Co e ad altri film Pixar. Vale anche la pena citare il fatto che gli Swedish House Mafia hanno composto una traccia originale (Roar), appositamente per il film: bravi Axel e Sebastian!

Lato spiacevole del cartone: la morale un tantino Jobs-centrica - come ormai accade in un po' troppi film della Pixar - e piuttosto diseducativa per i bambini. Il cartone lascia intendere che la carriera universitaria non è così importante, e che spesso la scalata sociale è possibile anche solo tramite il duro lavoro, e abbandonando gli studi.

Mi dispiace, cara Pixar: ma non vale per tutti così, e soprattutto non è qualcosa che si dovrebbe lasciar intendere ad un pubblico di under 15.

Mi sono sprecata in polemiche in questa ultima parte, ma anche se il film non regge il confronto con il suo sequel, risulta divertente, piacevole, e adatto a tutte le età, regalando agli spettatori 104 minuti di svago.

We needed 12 years, but finally Pixar\Disney decided to delight us with another adventure of Mike Wazowski and Sulley, Monsters University, in the cinemas from June 21, 2013.

What should I say? I had a lot of expectations - I still remember how much I liked Monster&Co. when I was 12 - and I wasn't disappointed, eif the movie isn't so legendary as I expected. I should say that maybe all the cartoons are less interesting when you are more than 20.

But let's take this step-by-step.

The film starts with a very young Mike, who decides to become a scarer when he grows up, after a visit to the factory which produces energy from the screams of the scared children. When he turns 18 he decided to attend Monsters University, faculty of Scaring. 

Although Mike's good purposes the situation is harder than he expected, at their university adventure goes on between their freshman year, some confraternity jokes and an amazing scaring competition - the Scare Games. 

The plot is on the whole pleasant and likeable, the film is funny also for an adult audience - there are many references to the first film - and some jokes are really brilliant.

I really want to say something about the amazing gag of Squishy's mum, whose favourite songs are death metal, because she is a monster: I LOVE IT.

Nice and approprite soundtrack, composed by Randy Newman, who had already worked on Monsters&Co. and on some other Pixar films. I also want to say that Swedish House Mafia composed an original track for this film (Roar): very good Axel and Sebastian!

Unfortunate side of the cartoon: the moral is too much inspired by Jobs' life - as in too many Pixar films - and it is a bit counter-educational. The cartoon lets understand that the university career is not so important, and that is possible to have a good job leaving the university and without studying. 

I'm sorry dear Pixar, but it doesn't work this way for everybody, and most of all this is not something you should leave understand to a such young audience.

I was a bit polemic in this last part, but even if the film is not as amazing as its predecessor it's still funny, pleasant and good for people of every ages, and it gives the audience 104 minutes of amusement.
